Russian writer Alexander Green (1880–1932) is called the “knight of dreams.” The fact that an ineradicable need for a dream and the embodiment of this dream lives in a person is narrated by his best works - “Scarlet Sails”, “Running on the Waves”, “Shining World”. Alexander Grinevsky (this is the real name of the writer) spent a long time searching for himself: he was a sailor on a steamship, a lumberjack, a gold miner, a theater copyist, served in the army, and was involved in revolutionary activities. He was exiled, but escaped and, returning to St. Petersburg under an assumed name, took up literary activity. He began publishing in 1906 and published about 400 works. Refined psychologism and high intellectuality, subtle lyricism and gentle humor, piercing sadness and the utmost intensity of passions - we find all this on the pages of Green’s books. Perhaps this is why readers return to Green’s work again and again, even in our very pragmatic 21st century.
