In fact, there were not sixteen of them in this house, as everyone used to think, but seventeen. And this last, seventeenth, was Nobody. He was so inconspicuous that he was not included in the Famous Book about Shorties and no one knew about him. Although he also lived on Kolokolchikova Street, in the same house. However, Niktoshka rarely appeared in this house, and spent most of his time somewhere. He usually returned home very late, sometimes even completely at night, when the front door was already locked. The short ones were fast asleep, and it was not easy to reach them. Only Vorchalin sometimes had insomnia, but he was always too lazy to get out of bed. And finally, when Vorchalin or someone else came down from the second floor, where the little ones’ bedroom was located, and asked: “Who’s there?” - Nobody answered: “Nobody.” For this he was nicknamed Nobody.
