This book is the fruit of many years of research work by the famous historian of Antiquity P. Faure, associated with the personality of Alexander the Great (356-323 BC) and his great Asian campaign. At one time, as a young man, the scientist repeated the path of the Greek-Macedonian army, walking most of the route. This expedition allowed him to talk about the difficulties of the campaign, relying not only on theoretical sources, but also on his own practical experience. The book is intended to make the situation in which the campaign took place more understandable for the reader and to describe its participants. In this large-scale canvas, a place is found for almost everyone - the honored military leaders who served Alexander the Great’s father Philip, and ordinary soldiers, and sailors, and the motley crowd of the convoy, formed by scientists and artists, suppliers and merchants, servants and slaves, wives of soldiers and comfort girls.
