Thomas Geoffrey Bibb was for many years one of the leaders of a number of expeditions in the Persian Gulf region, exploring prehistoric settlements. In his book he shows all the most important events of the second millennium BC. e., which occurred not only in Egypt, Crete, Asia Minor and Mesopotamia, where there were highly developed civilizations, but also in the north of Europe, in the Russian steppes and among merchants and sailors. The author emphasizes the importance of everyday life of the time described - an age of trade and peace. Another theme of the book is the onslaught of wild horsemen from the overpopulated steppes of the south of present-day Russia on the farmers of Europe and on the civilizations of the East.
