The book tells about the participation of Soviet Jews in the war against Nazi Germany and their contribution to the Victory. The heroes of this book were Jews - soldiers, commanders, ghetto fighters, partisans, home front workers. During the war, the author fought in the ranks of Soviet partisans in the Belarusian and Lithuanian forests. He was awarded orders and medals. In 1948 he took part in the Israeli War of Independence. He taught history at Tel Aviv University and published a number of studies in Hebrew, Russian and English. Director of the Yad Vashem Memorial Center in Jerusalem (1972–1993).
