During the Great Patriotic War there was such an extraordinary regiment - the 46th Guards Night Bomber Regiment. “Night” - because the bombers were old U-2 (Po-2) biplane training aircraft, “armored” with plywood sheathing. Such machines could not fight during the day, like other combat aircraft. “Extraordinary” - because the entire personnel of the regiment - from technician to commander - were women. Mostly girls 18–22 years old. These girls made 24 thousand combat missions in three years. 25 female pilots and navigators became Heroes of the Soviet Union. The book by the former navigator of the regiment, holder of the Order of Glory Olga Timofeevna Golubeva-Teres (born in 1923) is a true story about the combat path of this unique military unit of the Red Army.
