Anne Stewart has been dubbed the “grandmaster” of the genre of action-packed novels, and this is not surprising, because the writer, like no one else, knows how to create interesting intrigue with elements of detective and psychological thriller. In her new novel “Black Ice,” Stewart takes as a basis a win-win plot scheme : a girl goes to work, which you can only dream of, and gets into big trouble. The plot scheme is built on the technique of contrast, which the author maintains throughout the entire work: from lively Paris the heroine moves to a castle far from civilization, at one moment a measured life turns into a real detective story, and the first joy from a new job gives way to panic fear...Stuart until the very last Pages manage to maintain the tension in the novel due to subtle psychologism: the main character Chloe does not know who to believe, whether she will remain alive and who is the mysterious handsome Bastien - a traitor or a friend? The action develops rapidly: chases and shootouts make the work sharp and intriguing . Bloody scenes add similarities to “Black Ice” as an action movie, and the description of the relationships between the characters and the romantic line brighten up the images of cruelty and bring harmony to the narrative. Reading is recommended for lovers of mixing genres, fast development of action and intense intrigue. “The heroes do not know who is guilty and who is not, who is the killer and who is the victim, but the irresistible attraction of opposites dots all the i’s.” (Publishers weekly)
