New series about the last war of the USSR. “Afghan Truth” of military intelligence officers, whose motto is: “Dushmans do what they can, and we do what we want.” Memoirs of the chief of reconnaissance of a division that fought in Afghanistan for all nine years and lost more than 2,700 people killed alone. “Reconnaissance officers were shoved into all the “holes,” from escorting convoys to participating in airborne landings. But besides this, we also had specific actions, characteristic only of reconnaissance officers: ambushes, raids, reconnaissance-search, reconnaissance-strike, sabotage actions. Ask any veteran intelligence officer, he will tell you that intelligence has always and everywhere been assigned the most difficult and dangerous tasks. Combat work was the essence of our life. Having spent 643 “clean” days in Afghanistan, I don’t know how many times I’ve been in combat situations: maybe 400, maybe 500 times. Only soldiers and officers of non-combatant units and headquarters counted combat exits, since for them each such exit is an event. And for scouts, motorized riflemen, tank crews, paratroopers, sappers, this was everyday life... Perhaps many of the stories told here will shock some with their harshness and frankness, but this is the truth of war. That’s how it was, and there’s no getting away from it... I dedicate this book to the blessed memory of the military reconnaissance officers of Afghanistan, fallen and alive!”
