President Abraham Lincoln believed that slavery would continue for at least another century. Abolitionist John Brown's terrorist campaign against the South reduced that sentence to seven years. Brown began his campaign in 1856 and was caught and hanged in 1859. Lincoln's Emancipation Manifesto was signed four years later. John Brown has been called "the man who killed slavery, sparked the Civil War, and sowed the seeds of human rights." Today, when people peacefully protest cruelty to animals, industry and its advocacy groups call them terrorists. What could happen if they actually resort to terrorism?
