The novel takes place in the ancient Polish city of Sandomierz, a pearl of architecture untouched even by war, where a bloodless corpse and near it a knife for kosher slaughter were discovered under the ruins of an old fortress. How are the legends of the past and the complicated history of post-war Polish-Jewish relations connected to this murder? Is there any truth to these legends? The hero of the book, prosecutor Teodor Szacki, will have to figure this out. For a series of novels with this hero, Zygmunt Miłoszewski (b. 1976) was awarded the “Grand Caliber” Prize, established by the Society of Detective Lovers and the Polish Institute of Books.
