Valery Ignatievich Turinov was born and raised in Siberia, Kemerovo region, Mountain Shoria. He graduated from MISiS, and then defended his doctoral dissertation there. For 25 years, starting from his student days, the author, working in the summer on geological expeditions, traveled to Siberia and the Far East: the Dusse-Alin and Sikhote-Alin ridges with the coast of the Sea of Japan, the Amur, Dauria, northern Yakutia, tributaries of the Vitim, Western and Eastern Sayans, Angara, Tuva, as well as the Orenburg and Kazakhstan steppes. During the expeditions he kept diaries, which formed the basis of the proposed novels and stories.
