Nyquist’s most famous novel in Russia is “Nothing is Hidden by the Grass” [Gerd Nyquist “Stille Som I Graven” (1966)], the first of Gerd’s novels translated into Russian. A mysterious inscription appeared on the grave of Colonel Lunde’s first wife: “Nothing is hidden under the grass...” (modified line from a Carl Sandburg poem). And since then, something strange has been going on in the house of the venerable colonel, chairman of the Society of Poetry Lovers. Who ordered the inscription from an unknown stonecutter? Who attacked the colonel's sister, Miss Lunde? Associate Professor Martin Bakke and his friends begin an investigation... The novel contains many literary reminiscences, it captivates the reader with a tense plot, a combination of drama and irony.
