James Alexander, a famous heart surgeon, having divorced his wife because of her constant infidelities and tired of the annoying attention of journalists, moved to a small town to lead a quiet lifestyle. He will no longer be seriously attracted to women - after all, they are not capable of fidelity - but will simply focus on work and caring for patients. He gets a job at a local hospital, where he meets Charlotte Walker, a specialist in cardiology. James is amazed by her beauty, intelligence and kindness.
