Comedyographer. There is no reliable information about his life. According to some reports, Plautus worked in the theater, then engaged in trade, but soon went bankrupt. He is credited with writing about 130 comedies. In the 1st century BC e. The Roman scholar Varro considered only 21 comedies to have truly belonged to Plautus, which have survived. There is no exact dating of Plautus' comedies, with the exception of the comedy "Pseudolus", which was staged in 191 BC. e.
