Gevorg Andreevich Vartanyan (1924-2012) is the first employee of our illegal intelligence service to be awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union while working abroad in peacetime. Together with his wife, Gohar Levonovna, he worked for 45 years in “special conditions” - far from his homeland, turning, according to operational legend, into a successful and very wealthy businessman. The intelligence officer had to visit and work in about a hundred countries of the world - and in a number of them his “contacts” were senior leaders of states, intelligence services and armed forces. Until recently, our knowledge of the work of Gevork Vartanyan was limited to the events of ensuring the security of the “Big Three” during the Tehran conference of 1943. The author of the book, Nikolai Dolgopolov, managed to significantly expand the time and geographical scope of the biography of the legendary intelligence officer.
