Amphiteatrov, Alexander Valentinovich [14(26). XII. 1862, Kaluga - 26.II.1938, Levanto (Italy)] - graduated from the Faculty of Law of Moscow University (1885). In the early 80s he became a feuilletonist for the newspaper “Novoye Vremya”. He traveled a lot (Italy, Slavic countries), published correspondence in Russian newspapers. In 1899, together with Doroshevich, he founded the newspaper Rossiya. In 1902, he was exiled to Minusinsk for writing a feuilleton about the royal family. After 1920, he emigrated abroad, taking a hostile position towards Soviet power. Author of numerous stories, dramas, essays, etc.
