The fairy tale “The Nightingale and the Rose” reflects Wilde’s thoughts on the relationship between goodness, benefit and beauty. The tale (the author himself called his tales “studies in prose, for which the form of fantasy is chosen”) was included in Wilde’s collection “The Happy Prince and Other Stories,” published in 1888.
