At the very edge of Borovitsky Hill rises one of the most beautiful buildings of the Moscow Kremlin - the Archangel Cathedral. According to legend, back in the 13th century, a wooden church stood on this site, dedicated to the Archangel Michael, who was considered the patron saint of Russian princes in military affairs. In 1333, a white-stone cathedral was built on its site, which became the main temple of the Grand Duke. In 1340, the Grand Duke of Moscow Ivan Kalita was buried there, and from that time on the cathedral acquired the significance of a necropolis.
