Prince Pyotr Andreevich Vyazemsky (1792-1878) - poet, critic, memoirist. With all the versatility of talent and long-lasting - almost three-quarters of a century - literary activity, it is difficult to name a genre that would fully represent Vyazemsky the writer. Most likely, it is the notebooks that he kept for more than sixty years that most reveal the mental and spiritual make-up of his personality. The first part of the book consists of lifetime publications - a brilliant collection of historical anecdotes, aphorisms and witticisms called “The Old Notebook”; this is the 8th volume of the 12-volume collected works of P.A. Vyazemsky. The second part (9th and 10th volumes) includes notes from 1813 to 1878 - these are diaries and travel notes, arranged in chronological order.
