Emil Ludwig (1881–1948) is a German writer and historian, one of the luminaries of the genre of novelized biography, author of world-famous books about Goethe, Rembrandt, Beethoven, Roosevelt, Napoleon... The heroes of his works are great personalities whom the author does not idealize, but tries to “highlight everything human in them.” The story of the English King Edward VIII has always aroused great interest, and for good reason: he was the only British monarch who left the throne because of love - because of his love for the twice-divorced American Wallis Simpson. After a long and painful struggle, Edward had to make a final choice. The author of the biographical novel was personally acquainted with Edward and many of his friends, and this book is a genuine historical document of that time, written by a caring eyewitness to the events.
