The book is dedicated to the processes occurring in the Russian language at the turn of the 20th—21st centuries. It is a collection of essays united according to a thematic principle. The first part of the book is essays on foreign language borrowings, their properties, their relationships with native Russian (or previously borrowed) vocabulary, their “behavior” in language, ways and forms of describing foreign words and special terms in modern explanatory dictionaries. The second part contains articles devoted to the literary norm - its nature, its relationship, on the one hand, with the systemic capabilities of the language, and on the other, with usage and speech practice. We are also talking here about typical deviations from the norm and a kind of “growth point” among such deviations, that is, phenomena in which not just errors are visible, but the emergence of certain development trends in a particular area of the literary language. The third part contains brief notes about words - about the history of their appearance in our language, the peculiarities of their form and meaning, areas of use, normative status. The book is intended for Russian philologists, for undergraduate and graduate students of philological faculties of universities, as well as for everyone who is interested in the current state of our language.
