The book examines the development of the historiography of feudal immunity in Russia in the 18th–20th centuries, and outlines the author’s theory of immunity as a pan-European institution characteristic of the Middle Ages. The monograph is supplemented by appendices, which analyze the ideas of Western historiography of the 7th and 7th centuries. about feudalism in Russia and provides an overview of modern concepts of the evolution of forms of labor in Europe in the 13th–18th centuries. Separate essays are devoted to the historiography of the peasantry of the Middle Volga region in the era of feudalism and the question of the role of the peasant reform of 1861 in the development of the themes and methodology of Russian source studies. Two essays contain an analysis of Russian and French literature of the 60s of the 20th century concerning the history of feudal Russia.
