Invincible-class battlecruisers became the world's first ships of this class. Essentially, they opened a new era not only in cruiser construction, but also in the views of the naval command on the strategic and tactical use of cruisers. Representing a logical development of previous ships of the armored cruiser class, they surpassed them in all characteristics and had a huge impact on the naval doctrines of all states. Conceived and built in accordance with the ideas of Admiral Fisher, the cruisers began to be subject to harsh criticism even at the design stage, but, although not without shortcomings, they became the first step towards creating the battle cruising forces of the future British "Grand Fleet", which brought it well-deserved fame in the naval battles of the First World War.
