The space ark moves across the Universe from one intelligent planet to another. Its inhabitants are people who are confident that their “Earth” is eternal and wise, the Earthly path is unique and necessary, and the mission—the ennoblement of planetary minds by relocating part of the inhabitants of the ark to these worlds—is bright and lofty. About the one who sent them on their way, why and what happens to the planets that survived the “relocation” is not accepted and dangerous to think about. “Earth” has ways of dealing with the curious. However, the chain of usual events is broken when Roscoe, a scout and pioneer, discovers at the next “object” of resettlement creatures strangely similar to people, and the wreckage of an ark reminiscent of his native “Earth.”
