The new novel by the famous Soviet writer Stepan Pavlovich Zlobin “Missing” is dedicated to the struggle of Soviet soldiers who, after heavy fighting in encirclement, found themselves in fascist captivity. Having himself suffered this tragedy, the talented writer, drawing on a wealth of material, draws the courageous image of the Soviet patriots. For the heroes of the novel there was no question - existence or death; they decided the question this way - victory or death, because without victory over fascism, without the freedom of their homeland, Soviet people could not imagine life. Steadfastly enduring the most difficult conditions of fascist captivity, they did not bow their heads and found the strength to resist the enemy. An underground anti-fascist organization seizes moral power in the camp, organizes the destruction of traitors, escapes of prisoners of war from the camp, and then - as the highest form of organization - moves on to preparing an armed uprising of prisoners. The novel “Missing in Action” was first published by the publishing house “Soviet Writer” in 1962. This edition represents a new version of the novel, revised in connection with the author's comments and critical reviews received from readers.
