But the fate of almost all stars, except the most massive ones, awaits them to become such inhabitants of outer space. The history of the discovery of white dwarfs and their study dates back to decades, and the author not only describes in detail their physical nature and largely paradoxical properties, but also talks about the scientists who devoted their lives to these objects of the Big Space. In addition to information about supernovae and cosmological problems associated with white dwarfs, the reader will become acquainted with the history of radio astronomy, learns about the discovery of pulsars and quasars, the first detection, the origin and properties of microwave relic radiation and its role in the study of the Universe.
