Irkutsk writer Albert Gurulev became famous thanks to his first novel “Rosstan”, written in 1968, for which he was awarded the I. Utkin Literary Prize. The novel is dedicated to the events of the Civil War in Transbaikalia. White Guards, Cossacks, Red partisans, Japanese invaders - all mixed up in the bloody hard times. Rosstan is a crossroads where the heroes of the novel find themselves, and it is only up to them which path to the future they choose. The story of “Channing” is dedicated to the dramatic fate of a village that fell under another experiment by the authorities to “consolidate” farms and destroy “unpromising” villages in the Siberian outback. The story “And There Was a Day” is a story about a man who lost himself in the whirlwind of life and was unable to discern his second chance to find happiness.
