1942–1943 German-occupied Warsaw. Young Polish woman Irena Sendler, as a social worker, receives permission to visit the Warsaw Ghetto. Realizing that the Jews are doomed, Irena persuades them to give her their children. Sendler takes teenagers out through the sewer, and carries out kids in bags and tool boxes. She places them in monasteries and with friends. Someone denounces Irena, she is arrested, tortured and sentenced to death.1999–2000. Kansas rural high school.
