The exceptionally wide range of areas of application of electrical devices determines the variety of types of their classification.

Electrical devices are classified according to the following criteria:

by operating voltage - low-voltage (up to 1000 V) and high-voltage ( more than 1000 V); according to the operating or switching current - low-current (control, protection, alarm devices) and high-current used in power circuits; according to the function performed: switching devices: switches, disconnectors, contactors, magnetic starters; control, protection, alarm : relays of various types, travel and limit switches (contact and non-contact); command: control buttons, keys, command controllers and command devices; protection devices: arresters, fuses.
