The narrator's memories of a mysterious incident in the forest. Mavkas are evil forest spirits that live in forests, mountains and bodies of water - rivers, lakes, ponds. It was believed that young girls and young children who died on Trinity Week because of unhappy love or were killed by their parents during Trinity Week became Mavkas.
