For several months, northern Sweden was flooded with endless rain. The flood was saved by a huge dam, built with the expectation of the worst. But no one imagined that the “worst” would turn out to be baby talk compared to what happened. And one day the Luleå River undermined the seemingly insurmountable concrete barrier and rushed, sweeping away everything in its path, destroying houses, throwing cars, picking up all sorts of human belongings... and the people themselves. A gray wall of water rushes towards the heroes of the novel: the Sami, who long ago exchanged traditional life for city life; a helicopter pilot contemplating suicide; a young woman who has just learned that she is expecting a child; a power plant worker who decided that he would finally show all these women what a real man is worth; a lonely amateur artist for whom the river has always been a joy... A mosaic of tragic (and sometimes slightly comic) stories forms a great drama that will forever change not only the landscape, but also the fate of each of the characters.
