The book, written on the basis of foreign archival materials, as well as a wide range of published sources and scientific literature, examines the Anglo-French rivalry in North America in the 17th and early 18th centuries. Particular attention is paid to the foreign policy and diplomatic aspects of the struggle between the two powers, the role and place of their overseas possessions in interstate relations of that time, the first independent steps of the English and French colonies in the foreign policy arena. In the second edition, the section on the legal status of colonial expansion was significantly expanded, a larger number of archival records were used documents.
