Hans Christian Brunner (1903–1966) is one of Denmark's most significant and talented writers of the 20th century. The collection is based on Brunner's central work, considered by critics to be the pinnacle of modern Danish literature: a novel from the times of the German occupation and the Resistance, No One Knows the Night. The novel is complemented by the writer’s stories, written in different periods of his life. The novel “Nobody Knows the Night,” according to Danish critics, paved the way for the “new technique” of the 20th century novel in Danish prose. It tells about the events of the last year of the war in Nazi-occupied Copenhagen and depicts different people, representatives of different walks of life. Some of them managed to adapt to life under occupation and even succeed in it. Others, threatened by the Gestapo, were brought together by fate in a warehouse awaiting transport to Sweden.
