In the books “Reformers: Luther. Calvin. Pascal" (1939-1940) and "Spanish Mystics: St. Teresa of Jesus. St. John of the Cross. Little Teresa” (1940-1941) D.S. Merezhkovsky sums up his thoughts on the fate of Christianity in the world, as always closely connecting the events of past centuries with the present. In the first trilogy we are talking about “external” reformers, in the second – about “internal” reformers, whose mystical experience, according to Merezhkovsky, is called upon to transform the three world branches of the Christian Church into the Universal Church.
