Memoirs of Fyodor Fedorovich Tornau is a unique historical source telling about the vicissitudes of Caucasian life and military operations in the Caucasus in the second half of the 30s of the 19th century. The author, under the guise of a highlander, crossed the Main Caucasian Range in the Western Caucasus twice, and was later captured by the Circassians, where he spent two years, from 1836 to 1838.
