Sergei Leontyevich Epifanovich (1886–1918) is an outstanding Russian patrolologist, teacher of patristics at the Kyiv Theological Academy, one of the first researchers who began a serious study of the life and legacy of St. Maximus the Confessor († 662). Until now, S. L. Epifanovich’s master’s thesis is the most detailed and thorough research in Russian dedicated to St. Maxim, and one of the best works in world pathological science. The original edition of the first volume of the master's thesis in the 1913 version constitutes the first part of this publication. The second half of the publication includes materials from the final version of 1917 concerning the life and works of St. Maximus the Confessor. The bulk of the materials are published for the first time. The book is intended for scientists, students and anyone interested in teaching.
