The book is a reissue of the brilliant research of the master of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy Ivan Andreevich Orlov, which has not lost its relevance today, published in 1888 in St. Petersburg. The monograph by I. A. Orlov is not only not inferior to modern research in terms of the depth of coverage of important theological and philosophical aspects of the teachings of St. Maxima, but sometimes significantly surpasses them. All Greek texts left untranslated by the author have been translated into Russian. The translation of Greek quotes was made by R. V. Yashunsky. The book is intended for theologians, philosophers, historians and everyone interested in the fate of the Church.
