The name of the classic of Soviet cinema Grigory Chukhrai does not need any special introduction. “The Forty-First,” “The Ballad of a Soldier,” and “Clear Sky” are forever included in the golden fund of Russian cinema. The viewer, however, knows little about the master’s life path. Meanwhile, G. Chukhrai went through the entire war in the ranks of the airborne troops, participating in the most dangerous operations and often engaging in hand-to-hand combat with the enemy. In his book, Grigory Chukhrai talks about this, as well as other episodes of his life related to the war.
