Book Ph.D. Evgenia Mironova “Chernobyl: the undeclared war” is a documentary and artistic study of the tragic events of 20 years ago. In this book, the author examines all the main stages associated with the Chernobyl disaster: the causes of the accident, the events of the first twenty days from the moment of the explosion, the construction of the “sarcophagus” over the destroyed fourth block, the fate of Pripyat, the problems of decontamination and disposal of radioactive waste, the role of the army in the Chernobyl war and liquidators who worked in the thirty-kilometer zone. The author, an active participant in the events described, discusses the priorities chosen as the main ones when carrying out work to eliminate the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. As a scientist and citizen of his country, he asks the question: what is more important - the health and life of people or the energy power of a great power? And he comes to the conclusion: the Chernobyl accident is the largest man-made accident in peacetime, which was turned into a real war, in which there are evacuations of the population, livestock and poultry, and the mobilization of reservists, and the battle for the “sarcophagus”, and an abandoned city, and mass heroism people, and huge losses in “manpower and equipment.” When writing the book, the author relied on documents, facts and memories of participants in the events, as well as his personal impressions associated with repeated business trips to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant area and presents the reader with an honest document of the Chernobyl epic.
