Herman Hesse (1877–1962) - poet, prose writer, philosopher, public figure - one of the brightest figures of the 20th century. His works “Peter Kamensind”, “Demian”, “Siddhartha”, “Steppenwolf”, “The Glass Bead Game” became a contribution to the treasury of world literature. In 1946, the writer was awarded the Nobel Prize. Hesse himself called his work “an attempt to tell the story of his spiritual development,” “a biography of the soul.” French researchers Jacqueline and Michel Senas, based on large epistolary material, recreated the life path of the writer, who for his contemporaries became a symbol of the painful search for the meaning of life.
