Marc Auger's work belongs to a well-known tradition in social philosophy and anthropology devoted to the search for relationships between physical, symbolic and social spaces. The author tries to rethink it in the context of not just the challenges of the 20th century, but the era that he calls “hypermodernity.” Hypermodernity for Auger is characterized by excessive redundancy of time and space and special collisions of a personality undergoing serious transformations. The questions raised by the author are not only highly relevant, but also capable of revealing new layers of meaning - intuitively familiar, but long unnoticed, allowing for a better understanding of the rapidly changing world of hypermodernity. Marc Auger is director of scientific work (directeur d'études) at the Higher School of Social Sciences, which he led from 1985 to 1995.
