Renia is a Jew of Polish origin. The pages of the diary cover several years of her life, starting in 1939. In July 1942, having gained courage, Renia managed to escape from the ghetto, but was unable to hide. The Nazis found the girl in the attic of an abandoned house and shot her. Her friend Zygmunt wrote the last lines of the diary for her. After the end of World War II, Zygmunt found Renia's mother and younger sister in New York, who managed to survive, and gave them the diary. They dared to open it only 60 years later... Last December, the English translation of the documentary film by Polish director Tomasz Magerski “Broken Dreams” was released, telling about the life of young Renia in such a dramatic time in human history, the time of the Holocaust.
