Parody-humorous stories set in the world of the Malazan Empire have been written by Steven Erickson since 2002. To date (2019), six stories have been published, and the author has not yet exhausted the plot. In one interview, the writer called them a tribute to Fritz Leiber's "Tales of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser"; however, the subject of the farcical game is, rather, the entire volume of “thrillers” and “horror films” of modern mass culture. The murderous necromancer sorcerers Bochelen and Korbal Broch may be remembered by the reader from Memory of Ice. Their huge carriage, driven by the sad servant Emancipor, rolled across the plains of Genabakis, leaving behind very unkind rumors, and, together with the heroes of the novel, got stuck in the besieged Kapustan, where self-confident scoundrels unwittingly had to serve the good cause of defending the city from a horde of cannibals. The stories present other adventures of the restless trinity.
