The story tells about the activities of Soviet residencies abroad (in China, Japan and the USA) during the most difficult, initial period of the Great Patriotic War. In connection with the preparation of the counter-offensive of the Soviet troops during the Battle of Moscow, they were given a task of strategic importance: to ensure the prevention of the threat of a Japanese attack on the Soviet Far East. In the complex political and diplomatic game that unfolded, Soviet intelligence officers managed to do everything possible to thwart the plan of attack by the Kwantung Army troops on the USSR and expand the vector of armed struggle in the Pacific theater of operations towards Oceania and Southeast Asia. The threat of the Soviet Union waging war on two fronts was actually lifted only after the Japanese fleet attacked the US Navy base at Pearl Harbor. The book uses rich factual material, some of which is being published for the first time.
