When photographs of the nuclear-powered ship “50 Years of the USSR” appeared in the domestic press in the early 70s, everyone was amazed by the swift, catchy and impressive “tailed” appearance of our new boat. It was with their appearance that the Americans were forced to abandon anti-submarine groups and anti-submarine aircraft carriers and begin to create a global ocean-based system for illuminating the underwater situation. At the same time, regular patrols of US SSBNs in the polar regions ceased for a long time; that is, from the standpoint of the arms race, the costs of creating 671 projects were completely justified. It is known that NATO submariners, in addition to the “Victor-class”, gave these boats the sonorous nickname “Black Prince”; foreign reference books have always paid great attention to them.
