Published anonymously for the first time in 1808, Charles Fourier’s work “The Theory of the Four Movements and Universal Fates” initially did not bring any fame to its creator, so extravagant was this work. Fourier later tried to somewhat clumsily disown the most striking theories and chapters of this book, but it was they who made a deep impression on the thinkers of subsequent generations, right up to the present day. The socio-economic calculations and foundations of the theory of attraction of passions of the inventor of the terms “feminism” and “phalanstery” were studied with passion by both Dostoevsky and the modern American anarchist Hakim Bey, Roland Barthes, Habermas, Marcuse, Simone de Beauvoir wrote about him, and mentioned him in his lectures Merab Mamardashvili. Quotes from these and many other philosophers, commenting on the most striking, in their opinion, passages from the works of Charles Fourier constitute the reference apparatus of this book.
