Heavy trials befell the heroes of the story, but one can only envy such a life filled with grandiose events. Vasily, born in the suburbs of quiet Chernigov before the First World War, did not know that he would have time to see both the Tsar and Father on the “golden throne” sit with Father Makhno. It could never even have occurred to him that he would, based on slander, be arrested as an enemy of the people and a member of a gang that terrorized the long-suffering civilian population. He will be convicted by a farcical court and will go to “develop” the Kolyma expanses for many years. He will stand under execution and fall into a deep gorge. It will burn in a fuel tanker ready to explode with its legs clamped tightly. He will be robbed more than once by fugitive prisoners and for this he will be additionally convicted as an embezzler and plunderer of government property... A lot! Oh, how much there will be! Vasily endured everything, did not break down, did not take the easy path, and preserved the good name of an honest man. There will be bright moments in his biography full of adventures. There will be something to remember with sadness and something to remember with a smile, there will be something to pass on to descendants, so that they remember and know: not only the greats of this world get an interesting and difficult life path. In parallel, the story develops the story of Asya, Vasily’s future wife, whose share experienced no less difficult trials and twists of fate.
