Albert Emil Brachvogel (1824–1878) was a German playwright and novelist. In 1856 he wrote the tragedy “Narcissus” and thus marked the beginning of his fame as a playwright. In addition, Brachvogel is the author of several dozen novels, including historical ones. The novel “Louis XIV, or the Comedy of Life” is dedicated not only to the biography of the “Sun King”, but also to no less outstanding figures of that time. The pages of the book reveal the secrets of the all-powerful Cardinal Mazarin and the intriguing queen Anne of Austria, tell about the ups and downs of the court writer, the great Moliere, and, of course, about the endless love affairs of Louis, many of which became the causes of serious political events in Europe throughout the whole half a century!
