Thirteen-year-old Zhenya was raised by her aunt in England. Returning to Russia, to her family, makes a strong impression on the girl: the foundations of the fortress surprise and terrify her. In turn, the girl’s “foreign” habits and her liberal views are incomprehensible to her family and cause many conflicts. Zhenya finds herself a stranger in her own home. A lot of bitter grievances and hardships will befall the girl before she is able to find her way to the hearts of her loved ones... The author of the story is the Russian writer Elena Dmitrievna Ilyina-Pozharskaya (1851–1916).
