Far ahead of his time, Robert Cromie (1855–1907) created one of the first science fiction novels about a journey to Mars in a spacecraft using the power of anti-gravity, the meeting of earthlings with a utopian Martian society, fatal passions and sacrifices brought to the altar science. “Throw into space,” which became one of the historical milestones in the development of science fiction, was, among other things, the cause of the scandalous story in which H. Wells was involved. But this is not enough: the novel is connected to a literary detective story, in the center of which is the leading figure of science fiction literature, J. Verne.
